Wood Colour Variations of Quercus Species in Romania

چکیده

Wood colour metrics are increasingly being used in wood technology and ecology studies. Researchers usually determine the colours of after treatment or different habitats. There is very little research dedicated to problem variations among one specific species harvested forests regions. The main purpose current reveal estimate variability oak species. For this study, a total 89 samples were taken from heartwood seven (Quercus robur L., Quercus cerris rubra pedunculiflora K. Koch., pubescens Willd., petraea (Matt.) Liebl., palustris Muenchh.). CIELAB system was for assessment differences. To groups variations, K-means clustering used. results show that do exist. According cluster analysis, at least five types can be distinguished (because some clusters, few present) investigated forests. differences mainly observed terms lightness (L*) yellowness (b*). Redness not feature by which differs, but brighter more yellow samples. density Romanian oaks sample does influence coordinates. only coordinate affected a*, with small probability.

Chemical Investigation of Wood Tree Species in Temperate Forest in East-northern Romania

A quantitative evaluation of wood chemical components for some tree species in a forest area from east-northern Romania is presented here, through a comparative study from 1964 to 2000. Investigation upon the wood tree-rings in a Quercus robur L. tree species, as a dominant species, as regards its chemical composition and structure of the natural polymer constituents cellulose and lignin was al...

Tree-ring Growth and Wood Chemistry Response to Manipulated Precipitation Variation for Two Temperate Quercus Species

We examined the relationship among ambient and manipulated precipitation, wood chemistry, and their relationship with radial growth for two oak species in eastern Tennessee. The study took place on the Walker Branch Throughfall Displacement Experiment (TDE) site, located at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. Two dominant species, white oak (Quercus alba) and chestnut oak (Querc...

Water relations of seedlings of three Quercus species: variations across and within species grown in contrasting light and water regimes.

We compared seedling water relations of three Mediterranean Quercus species (the evergreen shrub Q. coccifera L., the evergreen tree Q. ilex L. subsp. ballota (Desf.) Samp. and the deciduous or marcescent tree Q. faginea L.). We also explored seedling potential for acclimation to contrasting growing conditions. In March, 1-year-old seedlings of the three species were planted in pots and grown o...

Wood Specific Gravity Variations and Biomass of Central African Tree Species: The Simple Choice of the Outer Wood

CONTEXT Wood specific gravity is a key element in tropical forest ecology. It integrates many aspects of tree mechanical properties and functioning and is an important predictor of tree biomass. Wood specific gravity varies widely among and within species and also within individual trees. Notably, contrasted patterns of radial variation of wood specific gravity have been demonstrated and relate...
